Marshals nab suspect waiting for ride

A Native American suspect who thought he could hitch a ride from a powwow to South Dakota instead was arrested Wednesday at a relative's home.

The U.S. Marshals Service reports its officers track Elroy Reano to the relative's home in Grants and found him hiding in a closet. He is now in federal custody in Albuquerque awaiting a court appearance.

Reano said he hoped to stay on the run until this weekend's Gathering of Nations Powwow in Albuquerque where he thought he could catch a ride to South Dakota.

Reano, charged in a homicide in 2003, was on probation when he was arrested by Albuquerque police for domestic battery on a household member.

By the time an arrest warrant was issued for violating his probation, Reano had fled to Grants, according to the marshals service.
