ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The man who killed two young mothers after robbing an Albuquerque bank received two life sentences in court Monday.
A federal judge sentenced Jeremiah Jackson to the maximum sentence Monday for the deaths of Kimberly Aragon-Nunez and Janice Flores.
The women’s families were in the courtroom Monday , begging the judge to give Jackson the ultimate sentence possible by law.
In April of 2010 Jackson was fleeing from police after robbing the New Mexico Bank and Trust when he crashed his car into a vehicle occupied by Aragon-Nunez and Flores.
Both women worked at the state’s Women, Infants and Children division and were on their lunch break stopped at a red light when the crash occurred.
In court Jackson asked the judge to go easy on him. He also apologized to the victim's families. The 33 year old father of two said he would do anything to switch places with his victims and would think about them every day for the rest of his life.
The judge didn't buy his story and handed down the maximum penalty.
She told Jackson his actions affected lives beyond those of the victim's families. She read three letters from tellers and a customer at the bank Jackson robbed to prove it.
The tellers and customer said they felt partially to blame for calling police who pursued Jackson. Jackson's lawyers claim if police hadn't been chasing him the crash wouldn't have happened.
The victims families say they are forever united, grateful justice was served and now plan to focus on their grandchildren and trying to move forward.
Kimberly Aragon-Nunez had three children. Janice Flores had two.
