ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A man says he was taking the trash out when he became the victim of a drive-by shooting Thursday morning.

Albuquerque police, however, still aren't sure what happened.

According to investigators, the victim said he was taking the garbage out around 7:45 a.m. on the 300 block of Vermont in northeast Albuquerque.

The victim described the shooter as a Hispanic male in his 20s or 30s and said he was driving a black Infiniti.  Police believe two people were involved in the shooting and are currently looking for the suspects.

Later in the day police said witnesses were not being cooperative.

"Detectives are on scene.  They're conducting interviews, canvassing the area and trying to get more information about the shooting," Officer Tasia Martinez said.  "And just in case this is a drive-by shooting, we also have the APD Gang Unit on scene assisting with the investigation."

The victim’s wife drove him to Lovelace Hospital, which is where police were first dispatched.  The victim was then taken by ambulance to UNM Hospital.

He is expected to recover from his injuries.
