ALBUQUERQUE (AP) - Authorities say a member of the Apache Nation has been sentenced to federal prison for sexually abusing a child.

The Albuquerque Journal ( http://bit.ly/La4t8u ) reported Thursday that 53-year-old Allen Stafford Smith will serve 121 months for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old in his home, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Prosecutors say Smith will be on supervised release for 10 years after he completes his sentence. Smith will have to register as a sex offender.

Smith pleaded guilty last year to charges that he sexually abused a minor. Prosecutors say Smith admitted to sexually assaulting the victim at his home on the Mescalero Apache Indian Reservation.
