ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A New Mexico man pleaded no contest Monday to charges of severely beating a dog with a bat and burning another with chemicals.

Officials say in July they found Luis Baltazar, 48, with a bloody bat at his home and two badly beaten dogs.

Baltazar’s attorney says his client did it because his neighbors complained about the dog’s barking.

A judge sentenced Baltazar to 90 days in jail.
