ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Police say, in an attempt to scare a witness, one northwest Albuquerque resident got a box filled with adult toys in her mailbox.

In December of last year, police reported a case of witness intimidation on Ortega Road.

According to the criminal complaint, the victim is a witness in a pending burglary trial and family members and friends of the suspect had been trying to scare her out of testifying.

A box was then left in the woman's mailbox and contained sex toys and a note that read " have fun cuz u dead."

Police say the victim saw 71-year-old Joe Chavez Jr. put the items in her mailbox.

Chavez was arrested.

He was in court Saturday facing charges of intimidating a witness.
