ALBUQUREQUE (KRQE) - A burglary suspect had a brief taste of freedom after he pulled a fast one at a local hospital.

James Payne, 33, was arrested Sunday morning for a home burglary.

Santa Fe County sheriff's deputies caught up with him at a mall where he had just got into a fight.

He started complaining about an injury sustained from that fight and was taken to Christus Saint Vincent Regional Medical Center.

Deputies say he was un-cuffed during x-rays and that is when he somehow walked out of the hospital.

Payne was later found hiding at a nearby school and arrested, adding an escape from custody charge.

The sheriff's department is investigating how this could happen.
