Kids say drunk fake cop urinated in hat

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Bernalillo County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man they said was impersonating a police officer in Albuquerque. He also faces charges from Albuquerque police for pretending to be an undercover officer while bullying a group of teens.

Investigators said Joseph Hannah stopped a group of teens playing ball in front of one of their homes Wednesday night near Wyoming Boulevard NE and Paseo del Norte.

"He showed me a badge and a gun so I bought it," said Scott Ingle, 15.

Ingle said Hannah seemed drunk as he pulled up in his black Mustang with flashing police lights. A can of Mike's Hard Lemonade was found in Hannah's black Mustang, according to police.

Ingle said the light-hearted conversation suddenly took a scary turn when Hannah became irritated, pulled out his gun and said he could shoot the teens.

"He gets out of the car, and he's got the gun and he tells me to give me your hat, so you know I take it off and give it to him and he just pees on my hat," said Ingle.

Ingle said Hannah then started patting him down aggressively.

"I saw the four boys looking back at the house, and they didn't look right," said Scott's mother Kristi Ingle. "They looked kind of white. They weren't talking. They weren't playing."

Kristi Ingle said she demanded a badge number, but Hannah shouted out a fake number and sped off.

Bernalillo County sheriff's deputies said their case against Hannah involves two different women he pulled over on Paseo del Norte near Tramway Boulevard. Hannah apparently showed the woman his gun and told them he works undercover drug busts and breaks into homes.

Deputies were able to link Hannah to this case because of his license plate that reads “Punisher.” Sources say he confessed to those stops.

But KRQE News 13 has learned that Hannah has impersonated a police officer before. He was arrested in Yuma, Ariz., two years ago after barging into a hospital and claiming to be a federal agent with the Bureau ofAlcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Yuma police said Hannah was waving a gun, flashing a fake badge and demanding to see a patient. Hanna plead guilty to disorderly conduct, but his charge of impersonating a peace officer was later dropped, police said.

When detectives searched Hannah's home late Thursday, they found two pistols, two rifles, more than 1,000 rounds of ammo, a tactical vest, a gas mask and filter, badge, holster and other gear.

Hannah is being held on $100,000 bond for each case in Albuquerque.
