ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A former Metropolitan Detention Center guard caught on tape beating an inmate will spend time himself behind bars.
Demetrio Gonzales was caught on surveillance cameras in December 2011 hitting and choking Christopher Shields in the showers of the jail.
Gonzales, 40, was also seen slamming Shields against a wall then repeatedly kneeing him while Shields was being booked on a charge of aggravated DWI.
On Tuesday a U.S. District Court judge sentenced Gonzales to nearly three years in prison for violating Shield's civil rights.
Two other former guards are also facing charges in the case.
