SANTA FE (KRQE) - An inmate serving a six-year sentence at the state prison near Clayton has died in an apparent suicide.

Ray Stallings, 41, was found unconscious outside his jail cell at the Northeast New Mexico Detention Facility at around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Guards tried to revive him before he was flown to Albuquerque where he died a few hours later.

Stallings was convicted last September for a 2009 incident where he lit his nephew on fire.
The nephew had burns over 28 percent of his body.
