ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A former Albuquerque cop convicted of obstruction of justice has is now in prison.

Brad Ahrensfield was an officer in 2009 when he tipped off a friend about a federal drug investigation.

He was convicted in 2011sentenced to six-months in prison, but kept delaying when he'd actually get behind bars.

Last week Ahrensfield asked a federal judge to delay his sentence another 45 days so he could care for his girlfriend who is sick with cancer, but the judge ruled he didn't have power to even consider doing that.

Ahrensfield is now in a minimum security prison for men in South Dakota.
