Robber who killed 2 sentenced Monday

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A convicted bank robber who hit and killed two women while running from the police is scheduled to be sentenced Monday morning in federal court.

The friends and families of Kimberly Aragon-Nunez and Janice Florez held a candlelight vigil Sunday - praying for justice.

In 2010 Aragon-Nunez and Florez were stopped at the intersection near Coors and I-40 when Jeremiah Jackson, who had just robbed the New Mexico Bank and Trust, crashed into their car.

Both women died in that crash and their families say it was a moment that changed their lives forever

"They were sitting at a stoplight just waiting for the light to turn green," explained Aragon-Nunez's brother Lucas Aragon.  "Now when I'm stopped at a stoplight that's what goes through my end."

The families say they hope Jackson gets the maximum sentence, life in prison.

"Jeremiah Jackson is a career criminal," said Aragon. "He's not someone that just one day decided to rob a bank and then kill two innocent women. He's been in and out of jail for 10 years."

Jackson admitted to robbing the bank and crashing into the car the women were riding in.  Still, Jackson mainstains that if police had not been chasing him, the women would not have died. 

A story the victims families didn't believe, and neither did the jury.

Jackson said he robbed the bank because he was desperate for money to support his two children and very sick ex-wife.

Aragon-Nunez left behind three children.  Florez was also a mother of two.  Both women worked for the state's Women Infant and Children Department and were on their lunch break when they were killed that tragic day.
