ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A jury last week found a former Tucumcari police officer guilty of criminal damage to property.
State police say last February, 32-year-old Pete Vargas was off-duty when he kicked in the front door of his estranged girlfriend's home.
A state district judge sentenced Vargas to a year of probation and ordered him to take anger management classes and pay restitution.
Vargas worked for the police department for three and a half years before he resigned in April.
His case in front of the law enforcement academy, which has the power to strip him of wearing a badge again, is still pending.
