FARMINGTON, N.M. (KRQE) - Farmington police say a driver may have been high on drugs when he hit and killed a woman on a city street Wednesday.

Police reported the victim was picking something up off the pavement near Main Street and Court Avenue when Joe Gallegos ran over her.

The 32-year-old woman was pinned beneath his SUV and killed.

Her name has not been released.

Gallegos, 43, was arrested at a nearby trailer park after running away from the crash scene.
