ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - After three years of fighting her charges, a driver who hit a little girl has decided not to fight any more.

Mallorie Chavez pleaded no-contest Thursday to causing great bodily harm by vehicle .

She also pleaded no-contest in another case where she tried to fraudulently obtain high powered prescription pain killers.

In 2009 Chavez was driving along Atrisco when she struck 6-year-old Kaylin Ford seriously injuring her.

Chavez didn't have a license because she was never able to pass a driving test.

Chavez entered into a plea deal that could put her in jail for up to 4 1/2 years.

Her attorney made it clear the victim's family doesn't thinks he needs to be locked up.

"All of them feel that probation is appropriate, and my client is relying on that agreement in entering into this plea bargain today," her attorney said during the hearing.

The deal requires Chavez to undergo substance abuse treatment.

Her sentencing is set for next week.
