ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A doctor who lost her bid for a high-level federal job amid allegations she padded her resume and denied medical care to immigrants wants to return to work at the University of New Mexico.

Dr. Cristina Beato has been on unpaid administrative leave since 2001 when started a stint at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Beato told The Associated Press on Tuesday that she wants to return to New Mexico to care for her father.

The Albuquerque Journal (http://bit.ly/NCBxxN) reports that UNM is considering her request for a job.

President George W. Bush nominated Beato in 2003 as assistant secretary of the department, but her credentials were challenged.

Beato says she should have updated her resume to reflect formal titles but performed all the work listed. The Cuba native denies denying care to immigrants.
