FARMINGTON (KRQE) - A deputy with a Four Corners sheriff's department died in an off-duty snowmobile accident Wednesday.
The La Plata County sheriff's office says Deputy Hollis Holland failed to return from a snow-mobiling trip to the Molas Pass area south of Silverton.
An air care helicopter out of Farmington spotted his body Wednesday night and helped guide rescue workers to it.
The department says ground crews made a difficult recovery, just as a major snow storm was moving in.
Hollis had been with the department for 20 years.
