ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A 34-year-old man is facing child abuse charges after the staff of a day care center where another child died recently noticed bruises on a 1-year-old boy.

Jason Meaney is charged with seven counts of child abuse.

Meaney told police he threw the baby in the air and the child fell, hit the side of the tub and passed out, according to the criminal complaint.

The child regained consciousness, but Meaney did not call medical personnel.

Instead he dropped the baby off at Precious Moments Learning Center where the staff there noticed the boy's injuries and called police.

A child left in a hot car died outside the same day care on Aug. 6. The boy's aunt, who worked at the center, was charged with child abuse negligently resulting in death and indicted by a grand jury on Tuesday, according to her attorney.
