ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A con man is in jail Sunday morning after police say he swindled an 81-year-old woman after telling her he was a Bernalillo County deputy.
Police say the victim is the man's neighbor.
The victim says she trusted Jerripaul Baker, 35.
According to the criminal complaint at one point he claimed he needed help with money after buying a gun, uniforms and other gear for his job as a sheriff's deputy.
Police say it was all a lie.
Investigators say he ended up stealing thousands from his neighbor.
Saturday, he appeared in court on a long list of charges, including almost 40 counts of forgery.
