HOBBS, N.M. (KRQE) - A crook with an eye for spice is accused of breaking into a Hobbs head shop, but he made it very easy for police to find him.

Police say 18-year-old Derek Thomas broke into the Up in Smoke shop over the weekend, stealing spice and cigarettes.

Officers say he was caught on surveillance video and left his cell phone at the scene and that is how they found him.

The Up in Smoke shop is one of many stores raided by the DEA in October.

But testing later found that the spice that was seized was not illegal and the shops got it back.
