CLOVIS, N.M. (KRQE) - Clovis police have arrested the man they say stole a plaque honoring Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. from a city park.

Investigators say Jeremy Palmer, 27, stole the plaque earlier this month from Potter Park.

Police detectives found it in three pieces at Clovis Recycling, and by the time it was brought in King's image and other details had been ground off the metal.  Further investigation led to an arrest warrant for Palmer as the alleged thief.

Palmer is charged with larceny and possession of stolen property and booked him into the Curry County Adult Detention Center under a $20,000 bond.
