ALUBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Police arrested a man accused of trying to rape a woman behind a popular northeast heights bar.

David Rodriquez, 45, faced a judge Sunday on attempted rape and kidnapping charges.

A woman says she left the Dirty Bourbon on Montgomery Boulevard near Eubank Boulevard at closing time early Friday morning.

She says she went into the alley to use the restroom as she waited for her friends to come out of the bar.

That is when police say Rodriquez pushed her to the ground and tried to rape her.

Officials say the women yelled and fought back and several people came to her rescue including two bouncers from the bar.

They chased, tackled and held down Rodriquez until police got there.

“We’re very proud of our people for what they did and how fast they reacted,” co-owner of the Dirty Bourbon, Kyle Kinney said. “We're happy that she turned out ok. It's just one of those things that..there's bad guys out there and it doesn't matter where it's out just always have to be careful.”

Police say Rodriquez and the woman did not know each other.

They say Rodriquez told them two very different stories about what had happened and police did not buy it.

Rodriquez has a lengthy criminal history that includes three felony arrests.

He paid his bond but was not released from jail because he violated his conditions of release on a recent aggravated drunk driving charge.
