ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - For the second time in just a few weeks a suspect has escaped from custody while at UNM Hospital.
The Albuquerque Journal reports a police officer did not handcuff 39-year-old Jonathan Kahl last weekend because he had swollen hands.
Suspicions were raised when Kahl, 39, was seen pushing a hospital cart while wearing blue jeans under scrubs, but he succeeded in leaving the hospital.
He was back in custody after being arrested Tuesday on suspicion of shoplifting.
Kahl is now in the Metropolitan Detention Center on a no-bond hold for violating his probation on past crimes.
The escape came after suspected gang member Valerie Guzman fled from custody after going to a hospital restroom on Feb. 13.
Officers acting on a tip arrested her at an Albuquerque motel earlier this week.
