Alleged telemarketer makes offensive call

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Was it a telemarketer or a prank call? Either way it was way beyond offensive and very racist. Now the Albuquerque man on the receiving end of that call is determined to find out who's behind it.

Tuesday afternoon, a man named Michael picked up his cell phone and received what he thought was a telemarketer from a credit card company. When he told the caller he was on the "do not call" list, things got ugly.

The caller began cursing and using racist remarks.

The vile and nasty caller went on and on, telling Michael he was going to find his wife and daughter and rape them.

Michael used his wife's cell phone to record several minutes of the conversation. When he told the caller he was recording him, the man hung up.

The number from the caller came from the Boston area. Operators there say callers can put in fake numbers that are difficult to trace. We also contacted the credit card company who says they have no call centers in that area, and say their employees are not responsible.

Michael contacted the Governor's office who told him and KRQE News 13 there was little they could do because it's out of New Mexico jurisdiction.

Michael also plans on filing a report with the Albuquerque Police Department but an APD spokesman also said those numbers are difficult to trace.

Michael has contacted the FCC and says he is determined to find out who made that call because they threatened his family.
