SANTA FE (KRQE) - Fraudulent checks recently paid to New Mexicans have been confirmed as counterfeit, according to the New Mexico Office of the Attorney General.
The amounts on the checks ranged from $2,650 to $3650.25, according to a statement from the AG's office.
Images of counterfeit checks and additional information are posted on the AG's website.
The AG maintains a database of counterfeit checks, and consumers who believe they have fallen victim to a bogus check can scan and image and mail or e-mail it for review by the Consumer Protection Division.
The simplest form of protection for consumers who receive a counterfeit check is not to cash it, according to the AG's office.
