ABQ man tied to Pittsburgh shooting

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A Pittsburg newspaper is reporting that an Albuquerque man sold guns to a suspect who recently went on a shooting rampage at a Pittsburg hospital.

Last month, police say suspect John Shick killed one person and seriously wounded five others at the University of Pittsburgh mental hospital.

Cops ended up killing the mentally unstable suspect.

A Pittsburg newspaper reports that the two 9-milimeter guns he used were traced to an Albuquerque man who put an ad in the paper a year ago.

Police say he sold the guns to Shick for $800 in a parking lot.

Cops believe Shick came to New Mexico because our state does not require criminal or mental health background checks for private gun buyers like Pennsylvania does.

The Albuquerque man told the Pittsburgh newspaper he is devastated to learn about the connection.
