ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - More than a dozen 911 calls were made before and after a wrong-way driver hit two cars.
Caller: “ok i'm on I-25, exit 292, and there's a drunk driver. I don't know if they're drunk or not, but there's a person driving on the wrong side of the interstate.”
Dispatcher: “We just had an accident on I-25 heading north.”
Deputies say 26-year-old Leela Perez was going south in the northbound lanes near Santa Fe Monday night when she hit the cars.
She admitted to having two mixed drinks.
One victim, 29-year-old Tarra Tull was seven-months-pregnant and had to have an emergency C-section.
Her baby boy suffered life-threatening injuries.
Perez's attorney says she will likely plead not guilty at first, but that may change later.
“She feels very badly about this accident and feels very badly for the people involved in this accident,” Attorney Don Cron said.
Perez is facing a charge of great bodily harm by motor vehicle.
DWI charges depend on the results of her blood alcohol test.
