ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Albuquerque police are investigating the death of a 2-year-old boy found in a parked car outside a daycare center at 4011 Ladera NW.

The little boy was found unresponsive inside a vehicle and taken inside the Precious Moments Learning Center where paramedics tried to revive him.

The toddler was then transported to UNM Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the person who left the child in the car is his relative and is an employee of the daycare center.

The car was parked in the back parking lot of the center which is blocked from public view by a fence.

Parents who take their kids to Precious Moments told News 13 the relative is a teacher at the center and a very responsible woman, they believe this was just a horrible accident.

As of Monday evening investigators still did not know how long the toddler was in the car or how hot it got inside the car.

Officers were interviewing the relative and other employees at the daycare to find out how the little boy was left inside the car to begin with.

APD said once they wrap up their investigation it will be turned over to the District Attorney's Office and it will be up to them to decide if charges are necessary.
