Unemployment system issues continue

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The calls and emails keep pouring in from people frustrated with New Mexico’s new unemployment claims system.

The Department of Workforce Solutions launched the system Sunday morning, but many people say they do not understand it and just can not get help.

At Workforce Connections, a separate entity from Workforce Solutions, people who are having issues with the state's new claims system are asking for help.

The new system is supposed to streamline the claims process, letting both claimants and employers do more online.

But many people KRQE News 13 has spoken to say the new system is confusing.

On average, 26,000 New Mexicans rely on the Office of Workforce Solutions to get their unemployment checks each week.

Around 45,000 employers now have to register with the new system for taxes.

Monday, 94,000 calls came into the Workforce Solutions Operations Center, with people asking for help.

“I’ve been trying since yesterday to get through it, and we've not getting no answers it's telling us that it's full and all that and it won't give us no answers…just tells us to get on the web,” Alfred Nieto said.

As of 9 a.m. Tuesday, the Workforce Solutions Operations Center had already fielded 20,000 calls.

Workforce Solutions representatives say they are working as fast as they can and advise people to keep calling if they are having issues.

Another common complaint is that people who filed claims Sunday and Monday say they haven't yet been paid.

A representative from Workforce Solutions says that's because of a banking issue unrelated to the new system.

That issue has been resolved.
