Sunland hires back some employees

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - There is some encouraging news coming from the Sunland Peanut Company in Portales which c aused a nationwide salmonella outbreak.
The company, which had to shut down since late September , has now hired back all but half a dozen employees.
After approval from the FDA the company was able to get its processing plant back up and running on December 26th.
Work continues on the peanut butter plant which is still undergoing major changes and sanitation.
“Since we do have the acknowledgement and the blessing of the FDA as well as well as our sanitation expert that is what is in the process right now and we hope to be in operation by the end of the first quarter,” Katalin Coburn said.
They hope to be in operations by March.
When the FDA conducted tests on the plants back ian September they found w idespread salmonella contamination.
