ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - A New Mexico restaurant is going under after its owner lost a legal battle over booze.
The legal dispute was based on an old land deed that banned alcohol sales on the property. It also banned blacks and Asians from operating a business there too.
The racist portion of the deed was ruled invalid years ago, but this week a judge ruled the booze portion was very much alive.
Alisa Young, the owner of the Backside Ale House, says without beer and wine, she is closing the restaurant.
"For me I'm done. It's Over. The end of an era," Young said.
Young's partner owns a pizza restaurant next door. He's no longer allowed to sell booze either, but says he will try and stay open without it.
News 13 tried contacting the neighbors who filed the lawsuit based on the deed, but they were either not home and didn't answer their doors.
