Albuquerque city leaders are supporting the beginning of a new Albuquerque Indian school district.
The objective is to be a pueblo version of ABQ Uptown with shopping, food, cultural displays and more, including office space for startup Indian businesses.
The development will be built near 12th and I40 on Indian land in the middle of Albuquerque; it's where the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center sits now and 19 pueblo governors have worked together to try to make the development a reality.
"It's a very exciting day, a day to celebrate I mean, we're finally coming together. It's a day to show unity within our pueblos and to show ability to be able to do solid economic development." said Mike Canfield of Indian Pueblos Federal Development Corp.
The public launching of the district happens Saturday at 9 a.m.
