Deal that may save Spaceport reached

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - There may be a deal to save New Mexico’s Spaceport.

Democrat house and senate leaders held a Tuesday afternoon news conference to announce agreement has been reached between Virgin Galactic and the New Mexico Trial Lawyers Association. That bill will be introduced Wednesday.

Virgin Galactic's made it clear that its Spaceport commitment could be in trouble if the legislature does not okay a bill to limit the liability of suppliers and makers of spacecraft parts and components.

The democrats claim the bill has republican support.

“I don't see a problem if it's a bipartisan effort, I think this should go through the legislature smoothly,” Senator Michael Sanchez said.

A spokesman for Governor Susana Martinez says she met with Virgin Galactic executives Tuesday and is hopeful.

She would have to sign the bill.
