Breaking Bad 'meth candy' booming in NM

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The owner of an Albuquerque candy store is dabbling in the Breaking Bad business and she says it is booming.

It's a move even The Candy Lady knows will be deemed controversial by some but it will not slow her down from making money off of her meth-inspired candy.

“Crystal meth…yeah isn't the best thing in the world, its not the best thing to replicate,” The Candy Lady, Debbie Hall, said.

Debbie Ball says it is just her spin on Albuquerque’s hit show Breaking Bad on AMC .

She says she first got the idea from the star of the show himself, Bryan Cranston, who plays Walter White a chemistry teacher turned meth dealer.

Cranston appeared on David Letterman last month with baggies full of candy.

Ball says she ran with the idea. Packaging it the same way and using the same ingredients, colored rock candy.

She says it's been a hit.

“We’ve gone through probably several hundred bags,” Ball said.

Some buyers are local, but most are tourists. Ball says it's just another piece of Albuquerque they want to take home.

It is also a perfect ending to the Breaking Bad Tour that an Albuquerque based Trolley Company is cashing in on.

“If somebody is concerned about it I would say this is a television show, its not reality,” Ball said.

Ball says the majority of people who learn about the candy laugh.
