ROSWELL, NM (KRQE) -
The final green light was given for the development of a new veterans' cemetery in the state.
The Roswell Daily Record reports that city officials gave the approval last week for a cemetery located just north of South Park cemetery.
The planned site will hold more than 2,000 plots in Roswell, free for veterans and their spouses.
The new cemetery has been long sought after since the closest military cemetery is in Santa Fe and for veterans the drive is long and costly.
The estimated total cost is around 1 million dollars; the majority of funding has come from donations from local businesses.
