NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The world's first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, USS Enterprise (CVN 65) turns 50 years old November 25.

The ship has served in every major military conflict with the U.S. in the past 50 years including the Cuban Missile Crisis, Vietnam and the first strikes against the Taliban in Oct. 2001. The vessel has completed 21 combat deployments total.

Capt. William C. Hamilton, Jr., the ship's commanding officer, has invited all former crew members to return to the ship for tours, lunch, memorial service and a birthday party on November 27 and 28.

USS Enterprise will embark on its final deployment in spring 2012 and is scheduled to be decommissioned in 2015.
