NM retail legend, Gertrude Zachary dies

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - A pioneer in the southwestern jewelry business has passed away.
  
Albuquerque business woman and philanthropist Gertrude Zachary passed away on Tuesday after a lengthy illness.
    
Zachary was born in Germany and left during World War II, relocating to the U.S.
    
She moved to Albuquerque in 1968.
    
In the 1970’s, Zachary began producing southwestern jewelry on 2nd Street and the rest is history.
    
Zachary also owned one of Albuquerque’s most famous homes, a magnificent 8,500 foot castle on 2nd Street and Lead.

She also gave thousands of dollars to charity, including her favorite Brothers of the Good Shepherd.
    
Gertrude Zachary was 75-years-old.
