NM museum to show dinosaur foot for first time

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - An exhibit at a New Mexico museum is bringing out a dinosaur foot that has remained out of public view.

A University of Arizona field crew in 1978 collected the nearly complete foot of the Alamosaurus in northwestern New Mexico. It was transferred to the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science in 2005.

The museum will include it as part of an exhibit on a century of discovery in New Mexico, starting Friday.

Parts of the Alamosaurus were discovered in the 1920s in the coal fields of northwestern New Mexico, 66 million years after it became extinct.

Scientists say it remains an elusive dinosaur, with no complete skulls or skeletons found.

What they do know comes from isolated teeth, vertebrae, parts of the shoulder and hips, and some limb bones.
