(CNN) – A South Florida high school student with special needs was crowned Homecoming King over the weekend as his classmates rallied around him.

Winning the crown was not the only reason for Hakam Daley, who has Cerebral Palsy, to celebrate.

One of Hakam's good friends, cheerleader Kayla Donohue,  rallied the Senior class and got them to put his name on the Homecoming Court.

"It just shows how we can come together and make a special person have a special moment he'll remember for the rest of his life," says Donohue.

But as Hakam begins to line up with the nominees, he surprises everyone by taking his first steps ever in public across the football field to line up with the Homecoming Court.

As the crowd goes wild, Hakam is surprised right back – by winning King of Homecoming!
