PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. (CNN/WPLG) - Move over Oscar Mayer Weinermobile. There's a new eye-popping food-based vehicle in town.

Check out the Big Banana Car.

Steve Braithwaite created it and says it meets all road safety requirements. He says working one day a week, it took him two years to build.

He's driving it across the U.S., and is preparing it for a world tour.

Braithwaite said a gas station display provided the inspiration for the vehicle, built out of a Ford F-150 pickup truck.

"I was in a gas station and there was a bowl of fruit right where I was standing in line, and on top was a banana that was exactly this shape. And I picked it up and I'm looking at this from every angle, thinking, 'Alright, the wheels would go there, the seats, the engine,' and I pictured it driving down the road and I started laughing," said Braithwaite.

Braithwaite plans on taking his Big Banana Car on a tour through North America, Europe and Asia.
