GALLUP, N.M. (KRQE) - Persistent police work identified a girl murdered in Gallup in 1975, and a memorial fund has been set up in her name to benefit New Mexico crime victims.
"The Candace Lynn Starr Memorial Fund" is named for a girl kidnapped by her boyfriend in California who then shot her at a Gallup convenience store. A recent test of DNA from the case finally identified her.
Her family set up the memorial fund and said all money raised will go to the New Mexico Crime Victims Reparation Commission.
