NEW MEXICO (KRQE) - Here are some helpful safety tips to help keep you safe while you and your family are out trick-or-treating on Halloween night.

Make sure that your child is wearing a costume that is comfortable and does not restrain your child from any movement.

Always go with your children, and only go to homes that have their porch light on.

If you are out at night, take a flash light.

It is better if you use makeup instead of a mask.

Make sure any clothing you are wearing is not dragging on the ground, you could trip and fall.

Report things like people stealing bags of candy from kids or any other activity that is out of the ordinary to police. If it is an emergency call 911.

Inspect all your child's candy before they eat any of it.
