Academy was founded at the time of a record breaking freeze in Albuquerque in 1970. Academy has been providing personable and professional services such as residential and commercial services and repairs, as well as replacements in plumbing, heating, cooling and electrical to the Albuquerque and surrounding areas for 37 years.

Jules F. Appelman is the founder of Academy Plumbing.

Jules started out by doing service calls out of his Alfa Romeo. Jules is still very much active in the company. He is a Certified Electrical Engineer. He is the Kohler Factory Authorized representative repair technician for the state of New Mexico. Jules also holds many licenses in the state of New Mexico.

In December 2004, Academy became an Employee-owned Company. The combined company provides 120 years of experience, derived from Jules Appelman (founder), Tim Starkey, Shelly Maez and Bill Collins.

Tim Starkey has been with the company for thirty-one years, providing a heating and cooling repair specialty, along with estimates for replacements in heating and cooling. Tim is an EPA certified technician with a JG classification.

Shelly Maez, who has been with the company for twenty-three years, started out running parts and scheduling service calls. Now the Chief Operation Officer, Shelly manages day to day operations, including service and installation scheduling oversight and inventory management.

Bill Collins has been with the company for nineteen years. Bill started as an assistant digging ditches. He is now a JE98 Licensed Electrician and holds an EE98 and JG classification. Bill performs all Electrical repairs, replacements and is Academy's HVAC installer and heating and cooling service call expert and estimator.
